  23. We have DEC terminal in an office that is old, and almost useless.
  24. I'd like to use an old  386 laptop (running kermit 3.14) I have in
  25. place of this terminal.  I'm assuming I can simply run some sort of
  26. cable out the back of the laptop through the built in serial port (9
  27. pin)  and into the wall where the original terminal is connected.  I
  28. think the DEC terminal connects using an RJ-45 connector (or whatever
  29. that connector that looks like a telephone jack is called).  There is
  30. no way to dial into the server at work.  It either connects the same
  31. way the dumb terminal did or not at all.

  35. (1) can this be done

  37. (2) what kind of connector and cable do I need to go from the 9 pin
  38. serial port on the back of the laptop to the wall 
  39.  
  40. -and-

  42. (3) is there anything that could seriously get in the way of this
  43. working that could take so much time to resolve it ultimately isn't
  44. worth the effort?

  46. I have the Using MS-Dos Kermit book so referrals to it are fine.
